Just to be sure, you've got the latest wallet version? Make sure you're on the right version since there was a hard fork back a while ago. You can get it from here: http://mincoinforum....5-mincoin-info/
I get a bunch of connections and don't see any trouble updating the chain on the recent one I installed.
Report back with any more info. I'm not sure what else to say off the top of my head, before you confirm this.

Ugh.. sorry I missed your title saying you're on the right client. (too much work and too little sleep at the moment.)
Have you checked firewall settings or maybe your router to make sure it's not blocking traffic?
I'm also wondering if you tried removing both of the addnode lines to see if you get anything like that? I don't have any addnodes currently and I've got 15 connections currently.

Current testing still seems to show very quick & consistent 4-7 connections with no open ports or anything special. Not sure what else to say at this time, but maybe new client will solve some issues like this? I doubt anything has changed with that stuff though, so maybe this is a problem in .conf file.
Maybe post your .conf files (remove any important info like passwords, etc) if you're still having trouble. I have nothing else to add unless more info is given.

I'm going to bump this thread to see if anyone is still having this problem. Please drop a note if you've got connection issues?
I've got my port open on the router's firewall, so it might be helping out. I see 16 connections currently, but I did a test earlier with the port closed and still had maybe 5 or 6 connections very quickly.
I'd like to consider this as a "closed" issue or something, but would like to hear back from those who had trouble.
